Workshop Addresses Mentoring Relationships

Gutwein_inlineHave you ever felt called to mentor a fellow woman only to tell the Lord that you were too young, didn’t have enough life experience, or didn’t possess sufficient Bible knowledge? Not so, says Sharon Gutwein. “We are all older than someone,” and what God requires is that we are “willing to be available.”

Sharon presented a dynamic workshop on mentoring relationships Wednesday morning at the 2015 GARBC Conference. Christian women who love God and people have a responsibility to mentor others, sharing their life experiences and coming alongside others in the journey of sanctification. With challenges and encouragement, Sharon gave the ladies numerous concrete strategies for developing and nourishing strong mentoring relationships with other women. This included a stack of homemade greeting, recipe, and Bible verse cards that Sharon presented to each in attendance to jump start their mentoring relationships.

When asked why she chose to attend this workshop, Rachel Schildroth responded, “As a chaplain’s wife, I have ample opportunity to meet women every day who need and desire mentoring relationships.” Many in attendance affirmed that the need to mentor is there but many do not know where to start or how to grow a mentoring relationship once it is in place. Sharon addressed these concerns extensively. At the end, there was a spirit of willingness to be used by God and to be a servant in the air, palpable to all those in attendance.

Sharon added that we all should be willing to be mentored by others because we all have more to learn, no matter how old we are. Having a teachable spirit and remaining humble is a good Biblical life lesson for us all.
